Visits to Europe
An official visit to Sweden, headed by rector of Yerevan State University of
Architecture and Construction Mr. Hovhannes Toqmajyan, took place within the
scope of the United European Project TACIS-TEMPUS from the 20th up to 28th of
January, 2008. The members of delegation were: the project manager, the head of
ELM chair S.Sh. Stepanyan, the IT and media manager Ruzan Harutyunyan, the
project coordinator, lecturer of ELM chair Varazdat Hovhannisyan
The details of the New Master Curriculum in Real Estate
ECOnomics and MAnagement (ECOMA) project were discussed during the
visit. The delegations from the following CIS countries were present
at the seminar: Ukraine, Moldova and Tajikistan. The seminar
conferences took place according to preliminary planned conferences
and campaigns. The project is directed to the creation of a new
Master Program (ECOMA) in Real Estate Economics and Management,
which was confirmed in 2007. The owner of the project is the Royal
Institute of Technology, Stockholm, which is responsible for all the
activities implemented by the consortium participants within the
scope of the project. The participants of the consortium are: the
Magistral Nakhagits company, the University of East London and the
Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction.
In the course of
the seminar conference in Stockholm Hans Mattson made a speech, the
subject of which was the elucidation of real estate law system in
the countries, having market economy. Professor Mattson mentioned
his own comments and observations, concerning the peculiarities of
real estate economics and management in the range of CIS countries.
Leif Eidenstedt, the leading professor at KTH, the project manager,
also made a speech, commenting on the real estate law system in
Sweden. The pro-rector Ramon Wiss, Olga Kordas, Mats Hanson, Kyil
Karly and others made speeches during the seminar conference,
presenting the structure of KTH, educational process organization,
scientific work organization and international activity. Rom Albert
concluded the speeches.
Lenart Shtahl, the
head of Swedish National Scientific Agency, took part in the seminar
conferences, making a report, related to the Bolognese activity.
Mrs. Inga-Lil Norlin, the head of Swedish National Institute, made a
rather interesting report, in which issues on further cooperation,
raised by our delegation, were discussed, related to the exchange of
young specialists and students from Armenia to Sweden.
The visit was finished on the 28th of January and the delegation arrived in Yerevan.
During the
period from 4th May to 17th May of 2008 the group of 8
lecturers (I.Vanyan, V.Hovhannisyan, A.Grigoryan,
K.Khachaturyan, A.Hovhannisyan, A.Adamyan, S.Badeyan) leaded
by S.Sh..Stepanyan, head of the «Economics, Law and
Management» (ELM) chair, YSUAC visited the Royal Institute
of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden. The visit has taken
place within the frame of the joint project on development
of a new Master Program on «Real Estate Economics and
Management» supported by the European Council TEMPUS
Program.
The main purpose of the visit was exchange of professional
experience and teaching skills between representatives of
project partner educational institutions. The Swedish
colleagues from KTH have prepared very substantial program
of two-week visit. The program included not only interesting
lectures on Real Estate Planning and Management, but also
field trips and visits to specialized organizations in order
to demonstrate how a theoretical knowledge is applied to the
practice. The teaching staffs of YSUAC and Moldova
Universities have presented the curriculums for recently
developed Master Programs on Real Estate Economics and
Management.

The project lecturers’ group from the YSUAC of Armenia and
Moldova Universities made a study visit to Stockholm
Municipality site being under development (Hornstull). The
Municipality employee Martin Bukht presented a project that
has to be implemented very soon.

process is organized in KTH.

The project lecturers group from Armenia and Moldova Universities has made a
study visit to Nortalia City that is situated in 150 km to the North from
Stockholm
The project lecturers’ group from YSUAC and Moldova Universities has made a
study visit to Syongen District situated in 25 km to the South from Stockholm
One of the huge construction company “JM” of Sweden has been visited by the
lecturers from Armenia and Moldova.
V.Hovhannisyan from YSUAC presented the Master Program development progress and
challenges raised during the process.
I.Vanyan from YSUAC presented curriculums on “Urban Economics and Management”
and “Urban Land Planning” courses developed within the frame of the project
A.Grigoryan from YSUAC presented two curriculums for master
degree courses on “Property Formation Technique” and “Land
Information Systems”.
K.Khachaturyan together with A.Adamyan and S.Badeyan Magistral Nakhagits
presented two curriculums for master degree courses on “Comparative Law” and
“Real Estate Law”.
A.Hovhannisyan from YSUAC presented the curriculum on “Negotiations and
Communication Technique” master degree course
V.Hovhannisyan and S.Stepanyan from YSUAC presented the “Urban Land Development”
practical design project as a final course project for the Master Program
A closing dinner has been organized by the KTH colleagues at the end of two-week
visit to Stockholm on May 16, 2008.
Our colleagues from the university – members from the College of Computing and Technology have prepared very constructive program for us. During the visit our delegation had opportunity to recognize the real property not only in urban but also in rural areas, ways of land use, the ownership registration system, etc. The purpose of our visit contained also some cultural aspects since the visits to different regions and communities of England gave us opportunity to get acquainted with traditions and customs of native people. Visit: Accompanied by Professor Robert Dixon-Gough we
traveled to the West of England the seaside town
Weston-Super-Mate on a minibus. During lecture the types of
real estate transformation and land ownership were
introduced.

Visit and lecture: Visit to the Somerset region near
the Weston-Super-Mate accompanied by Professor Robert
Dixon-Gough. We climbed a hill where everyone can see signs
of settlements of about three thousand years. We were
introduced the land use of that district. The peculiarity of
that district was the fact that main part of land was
captured from the sea. Before, approximately 500-600 years
ago this hill was an island, but nowadays it is already a
peninsula. On the top of the hill we saw also geodetic
points, which had been used for mapping purposes in the
past. With the appearance of GPS tools these points became
useless.
Now these are considered as the evolution of history of
geodesy. The visits of that day to Somerset region have been
followed by discussion of types of dwellings, change of
land, real estate valuation, and change of land use

Visit and lecture: We visited little town Southern
Fells in Somerset region to realize the types of land use
and evolution of dwellings. We also visited Lake District
National Park, where the value of real estate objects in the
region of Lake District National Park and surround it was
analyzed.

Visit to Barrow-in-Farness: The topic of the day was
the industrialization and its influence on the real estate
value. The discussions were on the example of English
western town Barrow-in-Farness

Visit and lecture: Professor Bob Dixon-Gough
accompanied us to some tourist centers of the Cumbria region
where we had discussions about the influence of tourism and
change of tourism types, real estate formation and urban
land registration

Report: Delegation of YSUAC presented the results of their
activities in the frame of the project. Particularly
Varazdat Hovhannisyan presented curriculum of courses
developed by him and talked about problems appeared during
current work. Later responsible lecturers presented their
works in detail. Anna Batikyan presented the curriculum of
courses on “Macroeconomics” and “Microeconomics” developed
by her, the methods of teaching, credits distribution and
principles of student’s estimation. In the same way all the
lecturers presented subjects developed by them. Particularly
Lilit Hovumyan presented curriculum of the course on “Real
Estate Economics and Management”, Hayk Marutyan presented
curriculum of the course on “Finance and Loans in Real
Estate Market”, Varazdat Hovhannisyan and Sargis Stepanyan
presented the following curriculums on “Real Estate
Valuation and Taxation”, “Investment Analysis”, “Real Estate
Market Analysis”, “Construction Economics and Management”,
Vache Toqmajyan presented the course curriculum on “Applied
geodesy”, and Karo Aznavuryan presented the course
curriculum on “Geographical Information Systems”.
